Goal setting; best for this time of year! How many of our goals do we really hit by the end of the year? Its that time of year again and a lot of people have setup their new year’s resolutions. New plans to hit this new year. In this post I will be sharing with you the 4 fundamental yet highly effective secret questioning techniques for your goal setting this year.
Although this technique can be used to any goals you want to set, this post restricts it to 90day goals. The idea behind this goal setting technique is to “chunk” your goals into bite size goal. This will help you to track and measure your goals as you go along the year. There are so many goal setting theories and goal setting exercises out there but nothing comes quite close to ‘clarity’. So this post will not give you any fancy goal setting worksheets but will give you clarity and accuracy in your goal setting.

Step 1: What Do You Want
The first step is knowing exactly what you want and making it clear. Write them down somewhere that is very visible and easily assessible to you. There are a number of reasons why you need to write down your goals really clearly. Consider this;

Writing down your goals gives you focus and makes you accountable for them. Thinking about your goals for your business is not good enough. Take a pen and paper and put it down.
Step 2: Why Do You Want It
Many times we say we want something and deep down we really do not want it. Many people think its “hocus pocus” but how many times have you said something you did not mean? By taking time to analyse why you want something you dont really know you want it. If there is a good enough reason why you want it you are naturally motivated to get it. The reason why this is important in goal setting is that tough times will come when you are looking to achieve your goals. Your vision and your why must be strong enough to pull you through the tought times.
When setting your goals you need to be very specific in what you want. This allows the brain to picture your goals and helps you focus much better on them.
Step 3: Who Must You Become
We must be what we want to become in order to attract to us. For example; if you are looking to hit a rank in your company, find someone who has achieved it and be like them. Caution: This is NOT to change who you are but what traits, posture etc must you have to get your goal. This is what Anthony Robbins calls Modelling.
Step 4: How Could You Get It
Little disclaimer here; if your concious mind knew how to achieve this goal you would have achieved it already. The key here is not to become too “hung-up” on this step. Draw a plan on how to get there and learn along the way. When you are very clear on what you want to achieve and are persistant, the way opens to you.
