Your VISION is More Important Than Your WHY
First off I would like to say that this blog post is really for inspiration during the time of tiredness and wanting to give up in your network marketing business. There are a couple of things we are told to do everytime we join a new network marketing company. These are very simple and basic things we are told to do.
Firstly, you are told to make a list of all your friends and family. In fact anyone you know in your life needs to go on that list and start contacting that list and show as many people as you can as soon as possbile. As soon as these people join they are also told to do the same thing; which is ok
Secondly, we are told to know our WHY. You have to know your WHY before you start this business otherwise you will quit at some point. Don’t get me wrong until now this is the same thing I have done over and over. Writing down my WHY and asking me new team members to also write down their why and what is causing them to do the business.
You see, there is nothing wrong with this strategy of motivating people to action. In fact, it is used in some sales techniques as well; where you stress the PAIN to the prospect and let them see what life could be like without using your product. This works but not for long. In fact I have just realised that this is the reversed way of working and striving to gain success in our network marketing business.
The only problem is that for most of us within the industry our WHY is always our pain. Lets look at some common WHY’s in our industry;
1. I need to be able to afford for my family (PAIN – simply because at the moment I cannot provide what they need)
2. I want to retire my wife/husband (yet another PAIN – you cannot stand to see your partner go through this kind of torture.)
3. Spend more time with my family (PAIN – i am not able to see my family or my children and I need more time with them)
These are only a few but you get the idea. Most of our WHYs are the pain in our life we are trying to escape from. However, focusing on pain is a negetive emotion that cannot be take us far. We need to focus on a VISION at some point. Your why can actually cause you to quit because those are very strong emotional needs that you cannot fulfill right away. This may take time and your why begins to draw too much of your energy.
Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish:…”
It is as simple as it is stated in the good book. Without a VISION we will definately suffer simply because our VISION is the only thing that can overide our pain.
You PAIN can only PUSH You Until Your VISION PULLS You
A body builder paints a picture of how great their body will look after all those painful hours of work out.
A mother will bear labour pains by simply looking forward to their new baby.
A network marketer will look forward to the number of lives they can change and the impact they will make in other lives and that is what whill keep us in the game.
